We set off from Shelter Bay with friends Helen & Ian of Sundancer II and two volunteer yachties as our linehandlers.

We anchored at the Flats near the entrance to the first lock until our advisor, Freddy, arrived at 5.30 pm

Then we proceeded to the lock entrance where we rafted alongside two other yachts and then slowly entered the lock passing our lines up to a crew above.

By now it was getting dark. We followed a ship into the lock.

After three locks we went to anchor in Lake Gatun overnight.
Next morning we waited for our next advisor.

Then set off across the 30 nm transit of the lake to the down locks.
Mid-lake we suffered a mishap when the prop struck a floating submerged object, resulting in damage to the shaft seal and cutless bearing.

We entered the down locks again rafted up with other yachts and ahead of a cruise ship.

Fianally the last gate opened and we were in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.

We were able to relax somewhat after a long period of intense concentration

Line handlers and extra tyre fenders were put ashore and JT went to anchor at Las Playitas. We booked to haul out of the water for repairs but it was now a five day holiday for Carnivale!

While we waited we went to see the celebrations. We were too early for the street parade.

The security forces were present in huge numbers.
It was the occasion for much beer drinking and riotous behaviour.
Underwhelming.
So JT is now on the hard at Flamenco marina untilwe can organise a new cutless bearing.
Hopefully, before too long, we will be on our way to the Galapagos.
